Do You Need A Wedding Hashtag?

We all know how big of an impact social media has in our lives. Some couples choose to embrace that while others like to go unplugged when it comes to their big day. One big thing that is always a topic of discussion when wedding planning is whether you will include a wedding hashtag.  With the growing popularity of social media came the wedding hashtag. A wedding hashtag has its pro’s and con’s just like anything in life. So today we are going to help you decide if it the right choice for you!

Let’s start off with some of the advantages of having a #weddinghashtag.

The #Pros

  • Don’t be fooled, wedding hashtags do have a purpose they aren’t there just for fun. A hashtag allows you to group all of the photos posted on social media so they are only one click away. This include photos your friends and family post of course.

  • Hashtags are a great time to get creative. It’s almost like a branding for you and your partner. It is also a great thing to work on together during your wedding planning. It is the perfect personal touch to your big day.

  • You don’t just have to use a unique hashtag for your wedding day but other things as well. From the bachelorette party and even engagement party. It is a great way to have photos from your friends available to you to look back on.

  • A wedding hashtag is great if you are okay with your photos being out there for everyone to see. If you are comfortable with social media and your friends are likely to share these photos then we say it’s a good idea. It also gives your wedding a different perspective then just your professional photos.

The #Cons

  • Going back to being comfortable on social media, you might want to steer away from this hashtag if you aren’t big on using platforms like Instagram and Facebook. There would be no need to have it because you wouldn’t see the photos unless personally sent to you.

  • If you know a majority of your guests aren’t on social media then there is no need to go through with one. It would only take time into thinking of a hashtag to have 2 or 3 photos tagged.

  • Having a hashtag that all of your followers can click and see all the photos means that some people might get offended. You might not be able to invite all of your friends so seeing this can be upsetting to some.

  • If you want to encourage your guests to stay off their phones then a hashtag might not be for you. If you want to go unplugged then you can pass on having a special hashtag.

It’s great to take a step back and thing about which is best for you and your partner. It all comes down to your personal preference.
